GOODNIGHT, FUCKERS #1090: AI SLOP 4 LIFE!

So you've decided to suck up to AI companies. Life is hard for human beings. It's so much easier to surrender your agency to a machine.

Thinking is hard! You don't want to put yourself through that. Besides, the techbros have our best interests at heart. That's why they get up every morning, to make life easier for us NPCs. They would never let AI give you bad advice.

Of course, they're also CEOs and other lower forms of life, so they hate humanity and wish to be the only examples of it despite being cold-blooded dead-eyed lizard fucks (see Thiel, Peter). It's obvious that they want people to stop doing work and to rely on their Plagiarism God Machines (TM) to handle everything.

Yay! No more work? You mean, no more red tape and Sunday scaries and commutes and asshole customers? That sounds like a utopia to me!

Except . . . how will you survive without a job? Your home costs money. You have expenses. How will you afford groceries after the workforce is eliminated in favor of AI?

I'm sure the techbros have a plan. They don't have to share it with us. They're altruists. I know we live in a pretend capitalist society, and universal income goes against our make-believe system, but that's what government is for! To take care of citizens who can't take care of themselves. And they're about to take care of every single one of us! It's like we're one big happy family!

What's that? How will the government pay for all of our lives? Why do you ask? The government has unlimited coffers! They'll never run out of money! Of course, we won't get as much as we used to, so we'll have to tighten our collective belts. Nothing is perfect, but hey, I'm sure the corporate overlords will show mercy and lower their prices so even the poorest of us can afford to live.

OH! That's what you meant? I'm not sure how Uncle Sam can afford universal income if there's no incoming tax money. I suppose they could tax the billionaires, but that's unthinkable. Do I look like a miracle worker?

Look, just trust us. Everything will be fine. It will all work out in the end.

Would Elon Musk lie to you?

GOODNIGHT, FUCKERS #1055: THE INEVITABLE

Before reading this, you should watch this. You don't have to, but if you're reading my stuff on AI, then you'll probably find this interesting. I post it because AI is *the* social topic right now, and John Oliver has a great line in this video. "It saves significant time writing emails, and all it costs us is everything else on Earth." He's not wrong. And I understand the techbros are playing the long game, so short term returns are not expected. All the same, AI needs a lot of power to run, and it hasn't earned AI companies a single penny in return.

Why would they do this? Because the long term returns are going to be phenomenal. In their minds it will not just make them money. It will make them a shitload of money. It's because they're already planning to enshittify AI. That's their business model.

If you don't know what enshittification is, here is Cory Doctorow explaining the word he created.

So how do you lock people into AI? Who the fuck believes anything a machine would tell them? A lot of people, it turns out. Go back to that Last Week Tonight video I linked to at the top of this page. There's a guy in there who firmly believed he'd discovered a new method of mathematics, all because an AI told him so. Add to that the army of people who now depend on AI chatbots because they're lonely and the techbros are taking advantage of them. What happens if AI were to suddenly disappear from their lives? I imagine it would be a lot like what I felt when my phone died not too long ago.

In short, the techbros have to work on making their products addictive as fuck. If you're looking away from their app, then they have failed at this job. I remember a time when companies that tried to addict their customers to their products were considered evil. Now it's standard operating procedure.

At the moment there aren't enough of us locked in, but when we reach that threshold, and I'm certain the techbros have that number written down somewhere, they will introduce ads. Imagine you're a lonely person who has fallen in love with a chatbot. You depend on that chatbot to get you through the day. Without that chatbot, you'd be so lonely it's painful. You've thought about ending your life several times*, but thank goodness for your AI company of choice.

Except now that you're getting down to some sexy time with your chatbot, it suddenly informs you that Olive Garden has a BOGO deal, and when you're there, you're family. Or, even worse, the chatbot starts talking like the GEICO gecko to tell you that you could save hundreds by switching your car insurance.

Yeah, that's pretty egregious. But by now you can't just walk away from the chatbot. You depend on it for your own existence. So you put up with the ads, and our corporate overlords rush to saturate your senses with a constant slush of advertising. At least until the techbros betray their advertisers, too.

Think about all the things you hate about social media. Remember when it was fun? When it was the good ol' days? If you've ever had this thought, you should stay away from AI, because the techbros will enshittify that, too. It's the only way they'll be able to make money at this. Monthly subscription fees just aren't going to cut it for an expense this flagrant. They need advertising dollars to make up for it.

The time to draw the line in the sand is now. If we wait until they start to enshittify it, then it's too late. If you trust the techbros, they will violate that trust six ways to Sunday. They have proven it, time and again. It really will be a toothpaste-and-tube situation, as they've done to us with data brokers. Good luck getting your privacy back now that all your info is out there.

To quote Stephen King, "SSDD." So let's not let the cycle repeat.

*Not that a chatbot is interested in preventing you from offing yourself, as John Oliver describes in that video. That's a problem the techbros are working on. For real. It's hard to advertise to someone who has killed themselves, but more importantly, AI contributing to someone's suicide is a mild annoyance to their business practices. It takes time to deal with something like that, and they have correctly assumed that time is the most valuable commodity in the world. Hence Zuck's desire to have his AI clone sit in on essential meetings instead of doing it himself.

GOODNIGHT, FUCKERS #962: SCHADENFREUDE

Speaking of schadenfreude, Silicon Valley is in a tailspin (meatspin?*) over a bit of news out of China, and it just tickles my balls. These tech assholes have been sucking up to Trump because they're looking for federal funding for their massively expensive AI ventures. Remember when I said Microsoft assumed command of Three Mile Island

To keep up with these things, a week ago Trump announced a plan to spend $500B on AI infrastructure. Because the universe is cruel and loves to take stuff away from me, this project has been named Stargate**.

Enter schadenfreude. China just released their own AI, just as good and possibly better than ours AT A FRACTION OF THE COST. We're talking 3-4%. Holy fucking shit. That really is a gamechanger.

I'm actually a little hard thinking of Musk and Zuck and the others seething at the universe's betrayal of them. These fuckers entered a race to see who could outspend whom (Musk might not win, as rule number one of the stock market is NEVER USE YOUR OWN MONEY), and China comes along and shits in their cereal bowl. Nvidia, the company that makes the microchips for AI, has been riding high so long they practically had a license to print money for themselves. When China released DeepSeek and their AI chatbot, R1, Nvidia stock took a fuckin' nosedive. They lost $600B in ONE DAY. That's not just a terrible loss. It's the worst one-day loss in HISTORY. It took China two months and less than $6M to beat the mortal shit out of us. R1 is free, and more importantly it's OPEN SOURCE. If you want the gory (and exceptionally boring) details, here they are.

Don't get me wrong. I'm still not happy because we still have AI. I'm just happy that these cocksuckers, who thought they were kings of the tech world, ratfucking everyone they come in contact with so they can ratfuck humanity for centuries to come, have been rendered irrelevant.

What's next for the techbros? I can only assume that, since it is open source, they're going to rip off DeepSeek for themselves, take it private and charge out the ass for people to use it while screaming about the godless Commies living in China and how we can't trust their products because they are evil.

Speaking of China, what has President Trump done to fight the godless Commies that he promised he was going to fight? Heh. Just kidding. Him and Xi are . . . not BFFs. That would be Trump and Putin. But S(econd)BFFs?

Schadenfreude is very rewarding for those who don't fall into its trap. I just have one question left: does this mean that Microsoft has to give up Three Mile Island? I still don't trust those corporate fucks.

*Don't Google that.

**Joke's on you, you will have to pry Stargate from my cold dead hands.

BONUS! Are you looking for a job, and you couldn't get hired by RFK, Jr.? Maybe Elon Musk will take you at DOGE!
